Chapter 171
What Edward had said was, "Let me be your boyfriend," and not "Be my girlfriend."
That small distinction didn't escape Janice's notice.noveldrama
She stood up, using him for support as she wrapped her arms around him. Tilting her head up, she asked, "Is that okay?"
Edward's heart had never raced like this before.
No matter how intense a business deal was, he had always remained composed, convinced that nothing in this world was worth losing sleep over. But with just that one soft, playful question from Janice, he surrendered completely.
His gaze turned impossibly gentle. "Yes. Whatever you want."
Even he didn't fully understand it.
There hadn't been any grand, dramatic moments between them—yet their constant, almost daily, encounters had etched her into his mind. It felt like being with her every day was simply the right thing to do.
Breakfast was served, and they sat across from each other, but Edward barely ate. Instead, he looked up and asked, "Do you want to move in here? Or should I move in with you?"
Janice blurted out, "Isn't that too fast?"
Edward chuckled. "Adult relationships don't have the luxury of years of slow progress. Besides, I just want us to have a chance to learn each other's habits. Do you think I'm the kind of guy who'd take advantage of you?"
After a pause, he added, "You should at least know my flaws."
Janice thought for a moment. "So far, I don't see any. Except... maybe you don't talk much."
Edward glanced at her, took a sip of water, and said nothing.
She hesitated before speaking again. "If I move in..... I'll still stay in the guest room."
Edward was briefly stunned but recovered quickly. "I'll have someone clean the master bedroom. You can take that. I'll stay in the guest room."
He was always considerate, always putting her first.
Janice set down her cutlery. "Then... will you help me move?"
Edward smiled and nodded. "Of course."
...
By the time Janice returned home, Jacob had already messaged her saying he was back in university. Janice was speechless. Why did people keep leaving without telling her?
en
She lectured him over the phone for a bit, then transferred him a few grand.
Meanwhile, Edward took a look
around her apartment, it wasn't much different from before. That was until his gaze landed on the trophies and certificates displayed in her bedroom.
"Why is one of the souvenirs missing?" he asked.
Janice walked over and casually pulled open a drawer. Inside was a small pile of brooches shaped like crochet needles.
"I have four of them. The one on display was from my first win. I gave one to a fan yesterday and forgot to replace it," she said.
Souvenirs from the international championship were meaningless, just decorative trinkets. The only things that truly mattered were the trophies and certificates.
After helping her pack, Edward was surprised to see that, in the end, she only had two suitcases.
"That's all?" he asked, visibly taken aback.
After all, every time Matilda moved, even three moving trucks weren't enough.
Janice shrugged. "Over the years, I haven't accumulated much."
Just those trophies, certificates, and a handful of clothes-nothing she couldn't replace. It was almost pitifully little.
She still remembered how it was the same when she first moved in here.
As Janice loaded her suitcases into the trunk, Edward immediately called Harrison. "Fill my walk-in closet with all the women's clothes it can hold."
He had bought her clothes before, but she had barely touched them, only picking out a couple of pieces she needed.
Suddenly, warmth wrapped around her cold fingers. Janice looked up.
Edward met her gaze. "From now on, I'll make sure you have so much that even a few trucks wouldn't be enough to hold it all. Does that sound good?"
Before she could reply, he added, "You can't say no."
What do you think?
