The CEO’s little ones

Chapter 33

Chapter 33:

When Magnus finished his words, Joseph gave him a cold look that made him stop talking. Silently, he buckled his seat belt and started the car.

It wasn’t hard to deduce Joseph’s reasons for doing this. Hayden had made a bet with his boss, where in three months, if he failed to reach the target he promised, he would have to leave the company. All the other interviewers present during his interview could be witnesses.

After Hayden took his job, the company’s sales target gradually increased, but it was still far short of its goals. Two months had passed since then, and she was even hospitalized for a while. It was safe to say that she would not be able to reach her goal in the time she had left.

Therefore, Joseph decided to give the organization of the anniversary to her, because by doing this, he would be giving her another two months’ time, and the outcome of this big event would also be considered her achievement.

The one thing Magnus couldn’t understand was his boss’s enthusiasm for helping Hayden. Was he being that way because she had saved Noah?

“Mr. Beckham, didn’t you say Frank is a reliable driver? Why did you fire him all of a sudden?”

“He’s talked too much.”

Magnus looked a little nervous and didn’t keep asking, because sometimes he also talked too much for his own good.

After taking over the work of planning and preparing for the company’s anniversary celebration, Riley, who was Hayden’s mentor, decided to delegate most of her current work to others so that she could focus on preparation.

This came as a surprise to her.

“Hayden, there are many employees who specialize in planning and strategy, but Mr. Beckham looked to you for this important job. You must do your best, as your performance is something we can be proud of.”

Riley didn’t teach her much in her time here, but now she saw Hayden in a new light, which made her feel flattered. “I’ll do what I can.”

For the next week, she was busy traveling from place to place for her job.

She had never done any prep work or planning for such a large event, so she was studying the other companies or malls just like this one to build her confidence and also get a good idea of what was going on.

“Miss, can I help you?”.

Hayden turned around and saw a member of the mall service staff greeting her with a polite attitude. However, there was a trace of wariness hidden behind his friendly demeanor.noveldrama

Hayden had taken many pictures with her phone, and this could make others see her as a competitor from another organization or a representative of the business and trade office. She immediately put the phone in her pocket and calmly replied, “I’m doing some shopping. Ah, yes, may I know where the jewelry store is?”.

The service staff hesitated a bit before pointing in a direction, “Over there.”

Hayden thanked him and started toward the jewelry store, ignoring the suspicious look on the clerk’s face.

She knew her gesture would draw attention, but she was not unprepared.

In the jewelry store, the manager was handling a necklace with his hands wrapped in gloves. It was a silver necklace with wavy motifs from which hung an emerald-colored gemstone. Diamonds framed the gem, which sparkled with unusual intensity.

“This really represents what our store sells.”

“Really?” Hayden tried to stifle his fluttering heart, “It’s from your store?”

“This wavy pattern embroidered on the necklace was one of our signature designs. Also, look.” The manager pointed to a necklace joint and continued, “The jewelry our store makes always has our brand logo engraved on it, even if it’s very tiny. It’s very discreet.”

“So, that’s how you can tell if there are a lot of people who have bought this necklace?”.

The director shook his head while smiling, “This is high quality emerald jewelry that has a long history and a high price. We do not own this type of jewelry. It was probably brought to us by one of our customers to have custom jewelry made.”

Hayden made an excited face at that, “So, is it possible to find out who it was that customized this?”

“It looks like this necklace has been for sale for a long time. It would take us some time to find out the suitor, but please let us try.” Hayden immediately thanked the manager.

“You’re welcome. You can keep this necklace, to be honest, this is the first time I have seen such a high grade emerald gemstone with my own eyes, although I have been working here for many years. There must be a record about this necklace somewhere in our inventory.”

After impeccably putting the necklace away and leaving the jewelry store, Hayden could hardly suppress the emotion in his heart.

Five years earlier, she had given birth to two children in N City, but was only able to raise Stella on her own. Her other child had been taken away by the doctor, and for all those years she had been searching for his whereabouts, the only clue she had left was this necklace in her possession.

She had torn it from a man’s neck that fateful night.

Thinking back to the events of that night six years ago, a shiver ran through Hayden’s body.

As his thoughts continued elsewhere, a greenish figure blocked his path.

“Hayden.”

It was a very delicate, mean voice.

Hayden raised his head unconsciously and the moment he saw who was blocking his way, his expression changed a little.

“It really is you. I thought I was seeing things.”

The woman lifted the corner of her lips and revealed a mocking expression on her face. She said sarcastically with her arms crossed, “It’s been five years since you last came home, lately you’ve even lost touch with the family. We all thought you had died somewhere down the street.”

This woman was none other than Chelsea, Hayden’s half-sister. She still had a menacing, domineering aura about her, after all those years, she still possessed a wicked tongue that was not inferior to her former self.

Hayden immediately regained her composure and looked at her coldly, “Unfortunately, I’m not dead yet. You seem to be disappointed about that.”

“Why would I be disappointed?”. Chelsea didn’t look her in the eye and replied, “Have you been back in the country long? If father finds out that you didn’t even think to inform your family of your whereabouts, I can imagine how disappointed he will be. He has raised you as his daughter for so many years, yet you only know how to come and go as you please as if the house were a hotel.”

“That’s between me and my father. It should have nothing to do with you.”

“I’m the oldest daughter in the Downey Family, so of course I have to care about everything that goes on in the family.” Chelsea lifted her chin and gave Hayden a sidelong glance, “Who knows who you fooled around with when you were overseas. You even said you were furthering your studies abroad when you hadn’t even finished your degree here. I still can’t believe you would tell such lies in front of father.”

Chelsea’s horrible words made Hayden clench his fist. He let out a cold laugh, “If I really didn’t advance in my studies and only fooled around with men, wouldn’t that play in your favor? You’d have one less competitor for family inheritance rights, and I can even imagine you and your mother smiling in your dreams.”

Chelsea’s face paled at that. She warned, “Don’t ridicule us without proof.”

“Whether I ridicule you or not, you are well aware of the truth.” Hayden said menacingly with an icy expression, “Whether I come back to you or not is up to me. Since we don’t have the same mother, you should stop pretending to be my real sister and berating me. We are no longer in the past; you can no longer bully me just because you have your mother’s backing.” Her last sentence sounded like she was scolding Chelsea.

Chelsea immediately made a disgusted face, “Who are you scolding now? You…”

“A good dog never blocks the way.”

Hayden simply brushed past her without reservation and caused Chelsea to lose her balance. Chelsea could only stomp the ground in fury as she said, “Hayden, wait and see. If you have any guts, don’t ever come back to us.”
