The Day Our Promise Breaks

Chapter 250

Charles had showed up with the police in tow. Deep down, Dahlia was as calm as a summer lake. But the second Charles announced Rosa had passed away. Her tears came flooding out like a broken dam.

She was a mess, crying her heart out, clinging to Charles with a guilty expression. "It was me... I caused Rosa's death," she sobbed.

Charles' face turned serious in a heartbeat. For the first time, he pierced Dahlia with a sharp gaze. His voice was as cold as steel. "What exactly went down?"

He couldn't wrap his head around the idea that Dahlia might actually be behind his grandmother's death. She knew how much his grandma meant to him.

Faced with his grilling, Dahlia's tears flowed even harder, and she apologized through her sobs. "Charles, I'm so sorry. It's all on me. I never should have made that call to you. Because of it, Grandma thought I was the reason behind Charlie's death."

"She wanted to avenge Charlie, and while I was home making soup for you, she tied me up and brought me here. She was just so mad at me and lost control... I tried everything to calm her down, but nothing worked..."

"I caused Grandma's death. It's all my fault! I'm sorry for making you lose her. I'm the one to blame!"

"Charles, lock me up and let me pay for what happened to Grandma and Charlie. Maybe then Evelyn will find some peace."

When Dahlia's words sunk in, the ice in Charles' eyes melted away. Dahlia was just beating herself up and not actually behind his grandma's death.

But Evelyn wasn't buying it, not for a second. She knew Dahlia too well. Dahlia was a spiteful woman like her, and Rosa's disdain was so obvious, so there was no way she was genuinely upset over Rosa's death. Every tear seemed fake and just part of the act.

Charles, though, was falling for it again. Hook, line, and sinker. Evelyn felt a chill run through her.

Just like with Charlie's death, it was the same story now with Rosa. Dahlia was nothing short of ruthless!

Shaking with fury, Evelyn lunged at Dahlia, grabbing her by the neck. "Dahlia did you say something to upset Grandma on purpose? Did you cause her to die of distress? Fess upt

"I didn't... I swear... Evelyn, what are you accusing me of? Charles cared so much for Grandma. How could I ever upset her on purpose?"

Tied up, Dahlia couldn't do much to fend off Evelyn. Her face turned a shade of blue as she shook her head violently in denial, tears flying off as she did.

"Evelyn, I know you're mad at me, but you can't just accuse me like this..." she pleaded, looking utterly pitiful as her teary eyes sought Charles' gaze.

Dahlia knew Charles would fall for it. He couldn't stand seeing her suffer. Ever since their reunion, he wanted nothing but the best for her because he was still haunted by the

"Eve!" Charles was quick to act, stepping in and prying Evelyn's hands off Dahlia. The police moved in right away, holding Evelyn back before she could do anything else rash.

"Ms. Evelyn, please, calm down," they urged.

But calming down was the last thing on Evelyn's mind. Despair filled her chest, and she had no clue how to let it out.

"It was her. She's behind Rosa's death! Check it out, I'm telling you. It was her!"

Evelyn insisted, her hands shaking as she clung to the officer's arm.

"Ms. Evelyn, choose your words carefully. We need evidence for everything," the officer gently reminded her. He knew she was speaking from a place of grief over losing her grandmother.

Their team had already searched the villa for clues, but the room lacked

surveillance cameras. The only footage they had was of Rosa dragging Dahlia inside.noveldrama
