The Sway and Slide of Love

As soon as the door opened, Noelle was hit by a strong smell of alcohol coming off Hendrix. She immediately frowned and tightened her grip on the doorknob, bracing herself against the doorframe.

"What do you want?" she asked.

It was already very late at night.

There were three other families living on this floor besides Noelle, and the last thing she wanted was to put on a scene for the neighbors. So, she kept her voice low.

Just moments ago, Hendrix had been banging on her door, demanding she let him in. But now that she had actually opened it, he stood there in silence, staring at her.

After a brief moment of eye contact, Noelle looked away. "If there's nothing else, please leave."

She moved to close the door, but the next moment, Hendrix pressed his hand against it.

"Do you really hate seeing me that much?" His head was lowered, his voice raspy. "I just moved in, and you couldn't wait to move out? Noelle, are you really that heartless? Won't you even give me the slightest chance?"

Noelle looked up at him. After a long moment, she suddenly said, "It's time for you to move on, Hendrix. There's nothing special about me. With your status and wealth, you could have any woman you want, so why do you insist on clinging to me?"

Hendrix let out a bitter laugh. "Any woman, huh? Do you think they genuinely like me? If I weren't-"

"You'll never know if they're sincere unless you give them a chance," Noelle interjected. "And besides, how am I different from them now? Hendrix, I don't love you anymore. They might love you for your power and status, but I won't.

Then, she continued in a calm voice, "You're a businessman. You should know what kind of investment is the most fatal, right?"

The motion activated light in the hallway had dimmed after being idle for too long. But the light from the living room inside still illuminated Hendrix's face, which looked pale and devoid of emotion. noveldrama

"A project that's destined to yield no returns isn't worth investing in, Mr. Freeman," Noelle answered her own question.

With that, she closed the door.

This time, Hendrix didn't try to stop her.

The movement of the door closing triggered the motion sensor, and the hallway light flickered back on. Hendrix's shadow stretched across the floor, seeming to grow longer.

He stared at it for a moment before suddenly laughing.

He never thought the day would

come when Noelle would be the one to teach him how to be a

businessman, nor did he ever imagine that the demure woman who once stood by his side would one day coldly and rationally analyze the pros and cons of their relationship.

And the most ridiculous part was that he couldn't refute her.

Hendrix didn't say anything more. He simply turned around and walked away.

Rosie adjusted quickly to the new place. Within a few days, she had already made friends with the kids in the new apartment complex.
