Chapter 0346
Lottie's POV
I stood there, feeling the weight of Selene's request settle over me. The Moon Goddess herself was asking for a moment alone, and while awe swirled within me, so did a flicker of apprehension.
Chewing the corner of my lip, I eyed her while I contemplated my options. I had so many questions, and I knew in my heart that she was the only one who could give me the answers I sought. Knox's grip on my hand tightened, making me smile at his presence. "Do you want to go?" he asked softly, concern etched across his features. But I couldn't help but smile at the fact that he was giving me a choice.
"We don't know what she wants," Kane stated, stepping closer to my other side, his eyes never leaving Selene. Maybe we should all stay together," he added, his tone guarded. I glanced between them, touched by their protectiveness.noveldrama
Letting my lip pop from between my teeth, I sighed heavily and chanced a final glance at the moon goddess. A question swirled in my mind as I remembered that mind reading was not just a demonic perk but a divine one, too. 'I am tired, my body spent and mind exhausted. Can it wait a few hours?'
"But no longer." Her sweet voice replied inside my mind, even as her eyes were on Chase. Something passing between them that irritated me beyond reasoning.
"I'll be okay," I assured my mates as I pulled my eyes from my brother and the moon Goddess and their flirting to offer a small smile to Knox and Kane.
"Are you sure?" Kane asked, seeming to sense my distress.
"He is your brother, are you really jealous?" Sage laughed playfully.
"Nope. Just don't like how chummy they are after all we have been through at her hands." I snapped back as I turned my attention back to my mates. Kane nudged me, waiting for my reply.
"It's not every day you get to speak with a goddess. I will be fine." I taunted somewhat sarcastically because my last encounter with her had not exactly been sunshine and roses.
Adam stood a few paces away, his
usually composed demeanour replaced with wide-eyed
astonishment. He seemed at a loss for words, his gaze fixed on Selene as if she might disappear at any moment. Selene noticed his stare and offered him a gentle smile.
"Your manners are refreshing, Adam," she said warmly. "It's been a long time since someone regarded me with such... gentlemanly respect."
"I, uh... It's an honour to meet you," Adam managed to stammer as he blinked, a faint blush creeping up his neck.
"The honour is mutual." Selene
chuckled softly. Meanwhile, I
couldn't help but notice again how at
ease Chase and Liam appeared in
her presence. They stood nearby, exchanging casual
un with
Setene as if they were old acquaintances.
"Do they know what she puts us through?" I asked my mates in a hushed whisper.
"I believe so." Kane replied while Knox nodded.
"Well, since when have they been so friendly with the Moon Goddess?" I whispered to Knox.
"I will explain later." He smiled slightly, although it did not quite reach his eyes.
"Or now?" I muttered as my gaze shifted back to Selene. She radiated an aura of serenity and warmth, yet there was an undeniable power beneath the surface. Kane remained stiff beside me, his mistrust evident.
"We appreciate your help back there," Kane said, his tone polite but distant as his hands clenched beside me. "But why intervene now? Why not sooner?" Selene turned her attention to him, her eyes reflecting ancient wisdom.
"I understand your frustration, Kane.
But there are laws even I must abide
by. I cannot interfere directly in mortal affairs unless certain conditions are met." Her smile
seemed soft and understanding, but
I wasn't sure I was fooled by this act.
"And what conditions are those?" Kane pressed, his fist still balling tightly at our side as he battled his rage.
What do you think?
