Caught In His Embrace: A Second Chance Romance

Chapter 428

Josiah's eyes flickered.

'Sienna... She didn't even want to see me, Josiah thought.

"Don't be angry..." Yvette continued, "Your father did it for you. He probably

thought that you would want Sienna by your side, so..."

Josiah closed his eyes, his already pale face became more ashen.

He did want Sienna by his side.

However, he didn't want anyone to force her.

Yvette looked at Josiah's face and loosened her grip as she whispered, "Wait

here. I'll go get Sienna..."

Josiah didn't respond. Yvette silently turned her wheelchair and left.

When the door opened, Yvette pointed to Sienna and said to the bodyguards,

"Take her inside. Josiah wants to see her."

The bodyguards exchanged glances and nodded.

They pulled Sienna up and led her inside. "Go on in."

"Sienna..." Josiah was lying flat. The instant he saw Sienna enter, his eyes turned red.

He glared at the bodyguards. "Let go of her."

"Mr. Edgar Evans.." The bodyguard tried to explain, "Mr. Andy Evans gave us orders..."

"I said let go of her. Ugh." As he was still weak, he became short of breath from the agitation. He gasped and was drenched in s w eat.

"Mr. Evans, please calm down. We'll untie her now," said the bodyguard The bodyguards exchanged glances. One of them took out a knife and swiftly cut the ropes binding Sienna.

The moment the restraints were loosened, Sienna felt her breathing e a se.

She raised her hands to massage her arms.

Her arms had been tied behind her back, and they had gone numb after such a long time.

"Sienna." Josiah lay there weakly, struggling to get up.

The toxin hadn't completely left his system, so his nerves were still numb, and his muscles could not move freely yet.

"Mr. Evans." The nurse anxiously held his shoulder. "You can't get up yet."

"Let go of me. I'm not disabled," said Josiah.

"Mr. Evans..." The nurse tried to stop him.

"Listen to the nurse." Sienna suddenly spoke.

She was not loud, but that was enough to make Josiah quiet down.

Sienna rubbed her arm as she walked slowly closer to him. Her gaze fixed on him.

"You can only lie down for now."

"Okay." Josiah stared at her and nodded obediently. "I'll listen to you."

There was unconscious flattery in the way he looked at her.

His gaze fixed on her arm, and his brows furrowed even deeper.

"They tied you up for a long time. Did it hurt?"

"No." Sienna shook her head with a faint smile. "Just a little numb."

"I..." Josiah wanted to rub her arm, but as soon as he lifted his arm, it fell powerlessly.

He was not able to exert strength and had to give up.

Looking at her face, he asked softly, "Besides tying you up, did the old geezer

give you any trouble? Are you okay?"

Sienna smiled faintly, and her eyes sparkled. "I should be the one asking you that. How are you?"

"I..." Josiah stuttered.

For some reason, seeing her calm demeanor filled Josiah with an inexplicable sadness.

She was right in front of him, yet he had never felt so distant.

He tugged his lips uneasily. "I'm okay. Don't worry. I'll be fine once the venom is cleared.."

"Okay." Sienna nodded as she remained her smile.

It made Josiah's heart sink even more.

Sienna rarely smiled at him like that.

"Thank you," said Sienna.

Her dark eyes stared straight at him.

Her eyes sparkled, but they were dry.

She kept smiling. "Conner and Joyce."

"Don't say that." Josiah shook his head, interrupting her quickly.

"I'm saving Conner because of Joyce. She's my daughter, and I should do everything for her."

"Yea..." Sienna smiled and nodded. "You're right. Joyce will be delighted to know how much you love her."

After a brief pause, she changed the subject.

"I've misunderstood you for the past two days. I thought... you didn't care about Joyce anymore," said Sienna.

She was being honest.

She had indeed misunderstood, thinking she was the only one who worried about Joyce.

Sienna said, "You're right. We are Joyce's parents. We love her just as much."

After a brief pause, she continued, "I feel relieved to see that you're okay."

Sienna smiled faintly with her arms crossed in front of her chest.

Her voice was soft and gentle as she said, "You have to get well soon. Joyce hasn't seen you for two days. She's having surgery soon, and she'll be so happy to see you beforehand."

"Sienna..." Josiah felt a growing sense of unease in his heart.

Sienna paused for a moment, took a shallow breath, and looked into his eyes.

"Did you go back to the Evans family for Joyce?"

Josiah's expression turned serious. He nodded silently.

It was just as what Sienna had expected After all, it wasn't hard to guess.

Ever since Cedric told her about the Evans family's massive search for Conner, she had speculated it.

She didn't know much about him.

However, she knew that he didn't want to return to the Evans family.

Sienna pursed her lips and forced a smile. "Well, then. Take care of yourself." Andy had six sons and three daughters.

His children were good at nothing but scheming, fighting amongst themselves, and even sabotaging each other.

Josiah had told her these things once when they ran into Andy at the hospital. Thinking back, Josiah's previous injuries were probably all related to his siblings. Going back to the Evans family gave him wealth but also put him in danger at the same time.

Whether his siblings would just give up and what would happen to him in the future remained unknown.

"Sienna..." Josiah's heart stirred. He wondered if Sienna was worried about him.

His Adam's apple bobbed, and his voice was full of emotion as he asked, "Could you..."

Before he could finish, Sienna interrupted him.

She smiled at him, ending their previous conversation. "You just woke up and need to rest, so I won't bother you any longer. I'll go now and wait for you to get bette before visiting Joyce."

Josiahwa s dumbfounded.

He parted his lips slightly, but he felt as if there was a fishbone stuck in histh

roat.

A thousand words were on the tip of his tongue, but he only managed to utter one word. "Okay."noveldrama

"Al right, then. I should get going." With that, Sienna turned around and walked away without another glance at him.

"Sienna... Sienna..." Josiah whispered her name. His gaze fixed on her leaving

back.

'Sienna, can you. stay by my side?

From now on, I will protect you and

JOYC

like this time.' That was

what he wanted to tell her just now.

However, he couldn't bring himself to say it.

He thought that Sienna clearly did not have the same desire.

She was even brought there to see him by Andy.

Thus, Josiah assumed that Sienna's love for him had died on the day he sent her

to Fliraty, and she had no more romantic feelings for him now.

He saved Conner in exchange for her kindness to him, but he could not ask for anything more.

Josiah closed his eyes tightly and thought about Sienna's words just now. 'She was telling me word for word that it's over between us.

"Sienna..." Josiah's eyes were sore, swollen, and moist as he murmured, "I understand what you mean..."
