Chapter 251 Suffering a Great Loss for a Small Gain
Benjamin gave a nod, and the team jumped into action. Allison broke through the firewall, and soon enough, someone was inside their system.
Watching the intruder skillfully bypass the firewall's passwords, Allison knew it had to be an insider. No outsider could crack the password sequence that easily.
"Allison, he's using a virtual address. I'm tracking it now!" a team member shouted.
Allison nodded. They had just three minutes to nail down the location. Benjamin had already started inputting the experimental data but tweaked the most crucial parts.
The intruder was clearly after the experimental data, diving straight into the database. Allison made his job harder to buy more time.
The rest of the team distracted him by opening other options, quickly drawing him to other databases.
Unexpectedly, the intruder accessed the lab's surveillance footage and deleted several segments. By the time he got back to the database, a minute and a half had passed.
Allison frowned. She hadn't expected the intruder to be in the lab. She took over the program from Sabrina and quickly located him. When he accessed the experimental data again, Allison had his location. "Break room, Room 9!"
Benjamin froze for a moment, then glanced around. Wallace Dickson was indeed missing. Furious, he slammed the table. "That bastard! Security, get him over here!"
The lab's security rushed to Room 9 in the break area, where Wallace, a PhD candidate and Benjamin's most promising student, was caught red-handed transmitting the experimental data.
When Wallace was brought to the conference room and saw who was there, his face changed.
But he didn't panic. Instead, he calmly sat down. "So, this was a trap you set for me?"
A PhD candidate isn't a fool. Wallace quickly pieced things together, though he was still resentful. "Of course, in your eyes, none of us can compare to Allison!"
His tone made Allison feel helpless, but dealing with him was Benjamin's responsibility.
"Wallace, you've been with me since undergrad. I've always seen you as my most promising student. I even considered you for the next head of the research institute. Why would you do this?" Benjamin was baffled. Wallace, however, showed no remorse, glaring at Allison with hatred. "Because of Allison, this woman who came out of nowhere. I've worked hard for years, and yet I still lose to her. It's not fair!"
Benjamin said, "So you stole the data to sell it? Wallace, do you even know what you're doing? This is my life's work. How could you betray me?"
Wallace remained unmoved by Benjamin's words. "Whether it's right or wrong, I've done it. Selling the data gets me a million dollars. What have I gained working for you all these years?"

Allison couldn't stand Wallace's shamelessness any longer. She slapped him twice and kicked him to the ground. "Wallace, you always brag about being Dr. White's student. Even your girlfriend is with you because of that. All your achievements and status come from Dr. White. How dare you say he hasn't given you anything? And you sold the data for just a million dollars? You're an idiot!"
Benjamin's research was highly sought after internationally. People would pay billions for it. Wallace had ruined his future for a mere million.
Wallace, now beaten, grew more agitated and tried to attack Allison, but she beat him down until he was left groaning on the floor.
Wallace spat out, "Allison, you only rely on your family's wealth. You don't understand how hard it is for kids from the countryside. You know I have a girlfriend, but after all these years, I can't even afford a house. How can I get married? But you, with your rich boyfriend and privileged background, you don't understand our struggles!"
Allison sneered, squatting down to look at Wallace. "Wallace, you're a loser! You're not the only one from the countryside, but no one else sells their soul because they're poor! You want a good life without hardship, so you deserve to be poor!"
Allison added, "Dr. White has always included you in his projects. Even as a PhD candidate, you get a $20,000 monthly stipend, plus $200,000 for each experiment. He's treated you better than his own son. And this is how you repay him?"
Allison's words angered the other students. "Exactly! You get the highest stipend among us, and $5,000 of that comes from Dr. White himself. You're ungrateful!"
Grant Smith, a fellow student, despised Wallace. Wallace never paid for meals or even takeout, relying on his status as Benjamin's first student. They tolerated him, but selling the data was beyond forgiveness.

Allison said, "Grant, take Dr. White to rest. Let the police handle this!"
Wallace thought Benjamin would only reprimand him, but Allison called the police. As they came to take him away, he pleaded with Benjamin. "Dr. White, I know I was wrong. Please don't hand me over to the police. I'm begging you!"noveldrama
Benjamin looked at him and asked, "What did you do with the million dollars?"
Wallace hesitated. "I bought a house. I planned to bring my parents to Skycrest. They've worked hard to raise me."
Benjamin sneered, "Didn't you know that if the experiment succeeded, the Carter Group would reward each member with a villa worth $50 million? Wallace, your short- sightedness has led to your downfall."
Wallace's eyes widened in shock. He couldn't believe Benjamin's words, but Grant and the others were thrilled.
Wallace pleaded, "No, Dr. White, please forgive me, Dr. White..."
The police wouldn't spare someone who sold national secrets. Benjamin, feeling unwell, was treated by Allison, who gave him a HeartGuard pill.
